This story is about "Jihad Jane" the middle-aged blonde American lady from Baltimore who was determined to foment and commit "jihad" against infidels and cartoonists wherever they might live. She's been in jail since last October, though her story has just been released. She's being cited as the reason why we need a vigilant, coercive, and ever-growing internal security apparatus at home and abroad, constantly monitoring the internet and the streets, in order to ferret out and apprehend evil-doers, like this lady.
Or maybe she's really a cat lady-- the nutball next door. I frankly don't know, and have no opinion except I do not like people who threaten artists in any way. I don't trust the source of any information I have read to make a judgement either. But I don't quite think she's worthy of tens of billions of dollars and an ever increasing internal security and surveillance apparatus.
More indications that she's really a nutcase are emerging, such as that some police department said she'd "tried to commit suicide" back in 2005. And a neighbor (or a friend) averred as to how she was probably "too stupid" to be a terrorist. Whatever, all the law enforcement and security agencies are hyperventilating about how much it's going to cost to keep an eye on Americans now. Oh, please deliver us.
